Many drivers attempt to be mindful of surrounding vehicles when out on the road. This type of awareness may decrease the possibility of a collision with another vehicle, but there are other areas that require attention. Many people in Hawaii choose walking as a means of travel, and the result can be catastrophic is a driver fails to notice them. Many car accidents involving pedestrians result in serious injury and, in some cases, death.

In a recent accident, a 49-year-old man and a 9-year-old boy were using a crosswalk to cross a street when a vehicle hit the boy. He was taken to the hospital shortly thereafter, and remains in critical condition. The man did not suffer any injuries in the accident. The 82-year-old driver of the vehicle was taken into custody on suspicion of negligence resulting in injury.

Being struck by a vehicle while walking can cause significant damage. In addition to physical injuries, accidents of this nature often lead to anxiety or other various mental health conditions. In this case the victim is young, and such a traumatic event may be difficult for him to overcome.

Those who are seriously injured in car accidents often have extensive medical bills. If the accident is caused by a negligent driver, the family of the victim may seek financial restitution through the civil justice system. Since the process can be complex, it may be advisable to seek legal counsel. When facing a similar situation, people in Hawaii usually speak with an experienced attorney for advice on how to proceed with a personal injury claim.
