Protecting The Legal Interests Of Injured Hawaii Residents And Visitors Since 1973

Tailgating and car accidents often go hand in hand

As in many other tourist-attraction states in the nation, Hawaii roadways are often cluttered with traffic. Every motorist is obliged to act with focus and caution behind the wheel to maintain safety for all who share the roads. When drivers become distracted or tailgate the vehicles in front of them, the risks of car accidents occurring are significantly increased.

An incident occurred on a recent Wednesday morning on the H-1 Freeway. Five vehicles were involved in a horrific chain reaction crash. All westbound lanes of traffic were shut down for more than an hour in the aftermath of the collision.

Two travelers were seriously injured in the accident. Both were transported to a trauma center. One suffered a facial injury upon impact, and the other, a neck injury when the vehicle he was driving flipped over in the crash. It was somewhere around 9 a.m. when traffic was permitted to use the road again.

Car accidents in Hawaii that result in serious injuries are often preventable. Many times, causal factors include driving at excessive speeds, texting while driving or following too closely behind the car in front, and the latter could have been the reason for this recent crash. Anyone who survives injury in an accident caused by the negligence of another motorist may seek restitution for damages by filing a personal injury claim in a civil court. When a victim has succumbed to injury, an immediate family member may act on behalf of the decedent to seek full monetary recovery for all losses. Although court-awarded compensation can never heal an injury or replace the loss of human life, it is often helpful to offset medical bills, funeral expenses and other costs associated with the incident.
