Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle has nominated Patrick William Border for the Circuit Court of the First Circuit and Craig Nakamura for the Intermediate Court of Appeals.
The Judicial Selection Commission submitted suggested nominees last month. "I am pleased to appoint two outstanding individuals, both of whom are well respected in the legal community and are highly qualified," Lingle said Tuesday. Senate confirmation lies ahead.
Border, an experienced mediator and arbitrator, has been with Cronin Fried Sekiya Kekina & Fairbanks since 1984. Before that he was a deputy state attorney general, then a deputy corporation counsel in Honolulu. He'll fill the seat being vacated by Marie Milks, who will retire on March 15.
Nakamura, an assistant U.S. Attorney since 1986 who has specialized in prosecuting complex criminal schemes, came from Goodsill Anderson Quinn & Stifel. The Harvard Law graduate will fill a vacancy created by the addition of a fifth associate judge to the Intermediate Court of Appeals
