HONOLULU (AP) – A helicopter manufacturer and a parts maker will pay $9.5 million to a New Hampshire couple injured in a tour helicopter crash on Kauai last year.

Boeing and Aluminum Precision Products settled a lawsuit filed by Judy and Douglas Barton of Newport, N.H.

Judy Barton is paralyzed from the waist down and her husband Douglas Barton suffered back injuries in the March 11, 2007 crash.

The couple’s attorney Rick Fried says they’re going to use the money to build a handicap accessible home. The couple is currently living in a trailer.

The Bartons have spent $750,000 on medical care since the accident.

A National Transportation Safety Board report says the helicopter lost its tail rotor and went into a tight spin before it crashed.
