Crosswalks are intended to allow pedestrians to cross streets in areas of traffic. The safety of these individuals is sometimes dependent on the awareness of nearby drivers. Many car accidents involving pedestrians end in serious injury and in some cases, death. A woman has died after a recent accident when she was run over by a tour bus in Hawaii.

The 65-year-old woman was attempting to cross a street when a bus made a left turn and hit her, subsequently dragging her along the ground a short distance. She was pronounced dead at the scene. According to police, witnesses claim the woman was within the lines of a crosswalk when the accident took place. The 51-year-old male driver of the bus has been driving for the company for several years and has no prior incidents on record.

Pedestrians have the right of way when using crosswalks. However, if a driver fails to take notice of them, the results can be catastrophic. Local workers suggest that the area of the accident is known to be dangerous for pedestrian and vehicle collisions. Reportedly, this was the first pedestrian death of the year in Hawaii.

Families who have lost loved ones in car accidents often face significant end-of-life expenses. If a driver is found to be at fault in an accident that claims the life of another, the family of the victim may seek financial restitution through a wrongful death claim. Since this can be complex, many families in Hawaii speak with an experienced attorney for assistance in navigating the process.
