PROTECTING THE LEGAL INTERESTS OF INJURED HAWAII RESIDENTS AND VISITORS SINCE 1973

Complications may arise after single car accidents

It is widely known that driving at excessive speeds can lead to devastating vehicle crashes. This is as true in Hawaii as it is in any other location. Whether car accidents involve multiple vehicles or only one, the potential for fatalities increases along with rate at which the vehicle was traveling. Such seems to have been the case in a recent accident that resulted in two fatalities.

A 32-year-old man was said to have been behind the wheel when the tragic accident took place. His mother told reporters that she always kept in close contact with her son, and she had just spoken with him not long before the crash occurred. The man was apparently traveling with several passengers when he lost steering control, resulting in the car striking a guardrail and flipping over multiple times.

Authorities say the accident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m., and that the vehicle was traveling at excessive speeds. Sadly, the driver and one of his passengers both died at the scene of the collision. Another person in the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital for emergency care.

When car accidents in Hawaii are caused by driver negligence, those who survive their injuries may file claims against any party deemed responsible, seeking recovery for their losses in civil court. If an accident victim succumbs to injury, an immediate family member of the deceased may seek justice on behalf of the loved one. Distracted driving, speeding, and alcohol-related offenses are often causal factors leading to fatal vehicle collisions. So far, in 2016, there have been at least 37 traffic-related deaths; it is only right that those injured by another motorist’s negligence should be able to seek compensation for damages because of the suffering they have endured.
