PROTECTING THE LEGAL INTERESTS OF INJURED HAWAII RESIDENTS AND VISITORS SINCE 1973

Failure to yield causes many car accidents in Hawaii

All motorists are obligated to adhere to traffic signs and regulations to protect themselves and others sharing the roadways. In Hawaii, many car accidents occur when drivers fail to yield rights of way to other motorists. One such accident seems to have occurred in Jan. 2016 that resulted in the loss of a man’s life.

Apparently, a 29-year-old was driving a moped near an intersection when the tragic collision took place. The driver of a sedan nearing the same intersection allegedly failed to yield the right of way to the moped driver. A collision ensued. Reportedly, the driver who is believed to have caused the fatal collision fled the scene.

An indictment against a 22-year-old driver believed to have been the one behind the wheel when the moped was the subject of a $75,000 bench warrant. He is charged with multiple offenses, including negligent homicide, manslaughter and failing to remain at the scene of a crash that involved death or injury to another. A 23-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of failing to remain at the scene but has not been formally charged in the incident.

Hawaiian car accidents that result in fatalities are devastating to families and friends of innocent victims. When a driver appears to have been reckless or negligent, an immediate family member of a deceased victim can file a wrongful death claim in a civil court. An experienced personal injury lawyer would be able to explain the process and provide assistance to a decedent’s family so that they may seek full monetary recovery for their losses.
