Hawaiian travelers are sometimes in a hurry. This may cause some to drive at excessive speeds, which can lead to car accidents and injuries to innocent victims. Negligent actions on the part of motorists can bring tragedy to families who may suffer the untimely deaths of loved ones in such circumstances. In other situations, victims who survive their injuries may be left facing long-term medical care and recovery costs that they were not prepared to pay.
Recently, a a motorcyclist was riding along Waialua Bead Road. It appears that another vehicle suddenly crashed into him, resulting in his ejection from the bike. Although the cyclist was wearing a protective helmet at the time of the crash, he did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police suspect that the 36-year-old driver of the car that struck the motorcyclist was speeding. An investigation into the crash remains ongoing. It is not yet known whether alcohol or drugs are factors in the incident.
At a time of year when many Hawaiian families are joyfully preparing for the holiday season, suffering the loss of a loved one can be especially devastating. In addition to the emotional trauma a grieving family often experiences, fatal car accidents can bring undue burdens upon them.
