Witnesses are being sought in a recent Hawaii accident that involved one motor vehicle and reportedly two pedestrians. Car accidents such as this one sometimes result in criminal charges being filed against a driver when he or she is suspected of unlawful actions behind the wheel. In this case, police are seeking witnesses in order to confirm the testimony given by the driver of the car involved in the incident.

A man, said to be older than 70 years of age, was reportedly driving near Makapuu Lighthouse on a recent Monday afternoon. The man claims that he had to swerve his vehicle in order to avoid hitting a woman who was crossing the road on foot. According to reports, when the man’s vehicle swerved, it struck another person who was standing by a sport utility vehicle. Police are seeking witnesses to the incident because they have not been able to confirm that anyone else saw a woman in the road at the time.

The man who was struck by the vehicle was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of a severe leg injury. Updated reports have listed him in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle is being held on charges of negligent injury. An investigation remains ongoing in the case.

Hawaii residents who suffer personal injuries in car accidents that are caused by the apparent negligence of another driver are entitled to file a legal claim in a civil court. Depending upon the severity of an injury, victims are sometimes faced with significant financial costs due to ongoing medical treatments or physical therapy needed for recovery. Additionally, an injured person might suffer loss of earnings if he or she is unable to return to the workplace after an accident. A successfully litigated claim can lead to compensation that might help alleviate some the financial burdens incurred because of an injury.
