One family is currently moving through the initial stages of grief after losing their loved one in a terrible car crash in Pearl City, Hawaii. The crash took place in the early morning hours of a recent Sunday. Upon early investigation, police believe that the driver of the vehicle struck a pole, killing the young man who was riding with him. Criminal charges in the case suggest that this incident is one of many in the area that result when reckless drivers take to the roadways.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene of the crash, and the passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital. He was unable to survive his injuries, however, and died while receiving emergency care. The driver of the car was also transported to the hospital, and sustained serious injuries in the crash. There is no mention of his current condition or prognosis for recovery.
That man, who is 21 years of age, has been charged with first-degree homicide, as well as driving without a license. There is no word on whether police believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, or of what actions they believe led up to the incident. However, the severity of the charges suggests that the authorities believe that the choices and actions of the driver were directly responsible for the deadly crash that took place.
As for the family of the victim, the weeks ahead will be difficult ones as they attempt to come to terms with their loss. Unfortunately, they are not alone in this experience, as reckless drivers have brought similar woes to other Hawaii families. Once the final arrangements have been made and they have had the chance to say their goodbyes, they may turn their attention to the criminal case against the driver. Should they decide to pursue their own legal action, they may do so in the form of a wrongful death case.
