Facility facing medical malpractice after failing to locate mass

Discovering a serious health condition in a timely manner is often crucial to the outcome. Some conditions will cause the health of a patient to deteriorate if not addressed, and failure to diagnose and treat these can cause irreparable harm and, in some cases, death. Patients in Hawaii expect doctors to have the utmost diligence when performing medical evaluations. In a recent lawsuit, a woman in another state is accusing a facility of medical malpractice resulting in the death of her husband.

The husband received a physical exam from a doctor who did not identify any medical conditions that would require further testing. A year later, another check-up was performed by a different physician, which uncovered a large cancerous mass. After examination, it was determined to be inoperable. Despite undergoing alternative treatment, the patient passed away.

The wife alleges that the facility in question failed to locate the mass, allowing it a full year to grow. Had it been found sooner, removal may have been possible. Patients rely on medical professionals to be thorough in health examinations, seeking to diagnose and treat any possible medical conditions before it is too late.

Loss of a loved one under such circumstances can cause many hardships. Medical and/or funeral costs often put a significant financial burden on a family. If a facility is found to be negligent in the treatment of a patient resulting in death, restitution may be sought through the civil justice system. When facing a similar situation, families of victims in Hawaii often speak with an attorney for advice on how to proceed with a medical malpractice claim.
