Hawaiian car accidents have cost many young people their lives

Any motor vehicle collision that results in a fatality is a tragic incident. Fatal car accidents involving young people are especially traumatic. A recent crash in Hawaii involved two vehicles and resulted in one death, as well as injuries to two others.

It was just after 6:30 a.m. on a recent Thursday when police received an emergency call reporting the collision. It appears that a sports utility vehicle slammed into the side of another car at an intersection. A 21-year-old female driving the car that was struck was transported to an area medical center for emergency treatment.

Sadly, the young woman was pronounced dead several hours later. The person who had been behind the wheel of the sports utility vehicle, as well as a passenger in his car, were both treated for their injuries at the same medical center. The 35-year-old man who had been driving was sent home in stable condition after being treated.

Police say they do not believe drugs or alcohol or excessive speed were causal factors in the crash. The Traffic Enforcement Unit has launched a negligent homicide investigation. There have been almost twice as many fatal car accidents in Hawaii this year as there had been by this time last year. In situations where a family has lost a loved one in an accident caused by another motorist, an immediate member of the family may file a wrongful death claim in a civil court to seek monetary judgment against the party or parties deemed responsible for the death.
