Hospital faces 6 counts of negligence in claim

Emergency rooms in Hawaii are often filled with patients seeking treatment for various injuries and illnesses. Many times, staff members are able to quickly assess a situation and provide appropriate treatment and care that help patients achieve speedy recoveries. If hospital workers are negligent, however, things may not go so well; in fact, many patients have died due medical negligence in emergency rooms throughout the nation.

A woman, acting on her own behalf and on behalf of a man who died, has accused the hospital where the man had sought treatment of negligence. He apparently went to the emergency room with a shoulder injury and was awaiting medical attention. While he was waiting, hospital workers allegedly left him unattended, during which time he fell and hit his head on the floor.

The patient suffered serious injuries, including a hematoma, hemorrhage and occipital bone fracture. Sadly, he died a few months later as a result of those injuries. The hospital claims the man was drunk at the time, and that it can not be held accountable for his impaired condition.

In addition to wrongful death and loss of society, the claims states that if hospital staff had appropriately assessed and addressed the situation, the man's injuries might have been prevented. The lawsuit seeks more than $50,000 in damages. Any person who has suffered the untimely death of a loved one in Hawaii due to similar circumstances may also consider filing a negligence claim in a civil court. Although, there is no replacement for the loss of a human life, successful litigation can provide compensation that can help offset the costs family members often face in the aftermaths of such tragedies.
