A first-degree negligent homicide charge was issued on a recent Wednesday in Hawaii in the aftermath of a tragic and fatal collision. Alcohol is sometimes the leading factor in car accidents, and it is suspected as a cause in this case. The 19-year-old male deemed responsible for the recent roll-over accident was indicted by an Oahu grand jury.

The young man had reportedly been traveling with his 18-year-old girlfriend at the time of the crash. There were also three other occupants in the vehicle. All passengers and the driver were ejected from the vehicle after it rolled several times and struck a guardrail on the highway. A 20-year-old male passenger suffered head and brain injuries in the accident. The other two occupants who were thrown from the vehicle are also said to have suffered multiple injuries.

Sadly, the girlfriend of the 19-year-old who was driving did not survive the accident. The man’s bail was set for $100,000. Police have stated that his blood alcohol content registered at 0.13. This is significantly higher than the legal limit.

The man charged in this case was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol under the age of 21. Reports indicate that the group of friends was traveling to a party together when the tragedy occurred. The immediate family members of those who die in car accidents are able to act on behalf of their loved ones when filing wrongful death claims in court. Any person who survives his or her injuries in a Hawaii car accident also retains the right to pursue legal action against the party deemed negligent in the case.
