A tragedy occurred on a Hawaii roadway involving two vehicles. Car accidents that result in fatalities often leave families and communities grieving the loss of their loved ones. The collision in this case brought police to the scene shortly after midnight on a recent Monday.

A pickup truck and a sport utility vehicle were involved in the crash. The pickup had reportedly been traveling in a westbound direction. It is said to have veered across the center line of traffic, smashing head-on into the other motor vehicle. Responders transported the drivers of both vehicles to area hospitals for emergency care.

Sadly, the 52-year-old man who was behind the wheel of the SUV succumbed to his injuries after being taken to the hospital. A 26-year-old man was driving the pickup truck. Police arrested him under suspicion of intoxicated driving. He was released to be treated at the hospital. Further investigation is now pending in the case.

Police have labeled their investigative efforts as those relating to a negligent homicide, though it remains to be seen what charges will result. Data suggests that there were eight fatal car accidents in Hawaii by Aug. 2014 whereas this was the 14th reported fatal motor vehicle accident on the Hawaiian islands this year. When family members suffer the untimely loss of a loved one due to the negligence of another motorist, they are typically able to seek compensation for damages with regard to the tragedy by filing a legal claim in a civil court against the party or parties deemed at fault.
