Travelers on a freeway in Hawaii experienced delays lasting approximately three hours after a recent multiple-vehicle accident. Reports indicate that as many as eight people were injured in the recent collision. Car accidents involving several vehicles often necessitate combined efforts on the part of emergency medical rescue workers and area hospitals in order to attend to a large number of injured victims.

The crash occurred just after 7 a.m. on a recent Monday. Apparently, a 70-year-old driver who was heading in a northbound direction veered across a median into the southbound lane of traffic. A chain-reaction collision then ensued, with seven vehicles crashing into one another.

The man who is thought to have caused the wreck was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. Seriously injured were two women, ages 44 and 29. The others who were injured in the massive collision were able to be treated by rescue workers at the scene of the accident. Police reports indicate that neither alcohol nor excessive speed were suspected factors in the case.

It was reported that by10:45 a.m., all normal lanes of traffic were reopened. Car accidents that involve multiple vehicles in Hawaii and result in personal injury are sometimes determined to have been caused by the negligence of one or more of the motorists involved. Under such circumstances, an injured victim could file a legal claim against the party believed to have been at fault in a civil court. One might choose to do this in order to seek compensation for damages sustained in an accident, such as medical bills, lost wages or ongoing costs incurred during recovery.
