Reckless drivers sometimes cause fatal accidents in Hawaii

A tragedy occurred on a Hawaii highway in June 2013. The accident happened at approximately 9 a.m. and involved two vehicles. Collisions like the one in this case are sometimes caused by reckless drivers and have disastrous consequences for all those involved. The 2013 accident ended in a fatality.

A 54-year-old man reportedly entered a recent no contest plea in connection with the 2013 tragedy. The plea came a couple of weeks before the man was slated to stand trial on a third-degree negligent homicide charge. At the time of the accident, he was driving a flatbed truck and is said to have made an illegal U-turn on the road.

As the man attempted to turn his truck around, the 30-foot rear end of its flatbed was reportedly protruding into a traffic lane. Another vehicle driven by an 83-year-old man crashed into the back end of the truck. The impact of the collision caused the car to enter into a spin and veer across the highway, coming to a halt on a roadside embankment. Sadly, the elderly man did not survive the crash.

The accused man's recent no contest plea is an admission that he caused the man's death in the accident that took place two years ago. Many others have been injured or killed by reckless drivers in similar accidents throughout Hawaii. Though it can not bring healing to a physical injury, nor lift the grief of a family who has suffered the death of a loved one, it is beneficial to know that accident victims who survive a crash and surviving family members of deceased victims may seek compensation for damages by filing a personal injury or wrongful death claim, as appropriate, in a civil court.
