Reckless drivers can wreak devastation on Hawaii motorists

It is a fact that every motorist or passenger in a traveling vehicle places him or herself at risk for the consequences of the negligent or wrongful actions of other drivers. Reckless drivers, in particular, often wreak havoc upon the highways of Hawaii. A recent case involves a construction vehicle and a driver of a second vehicle who was suspected of having been involved in a hit-and-run collision moments before a second crash took place.

It was on a recent Thursday, just after 3 p.m., when a group of construction workers were traveling on Kamehameha Highway. One member of the work crew was a 30-year-old man who is well-known in his community for his athletic achievements in the Special Olympics. He is said to have been riding in the back of the construction vehicle in order to pick up traffic cones as the truck moved along.

According to reports, a sport utility vehicle came barreling down a hill and crashed into the bed of the construction truck where the man was sitting with his legs hanging over the side. Sadly, the impact of the crash resulted in the loss of both legs. The driver of the SUV suffered fatal head wounds in the crash. He was being followed by multiple other vehicles whose drivers were apparently pursuing him in connection with a hit-and-run accident that they claim to have witnessed him causing a few moments earlier.

The family and friends of the injured Special Olympics athlete have rallied around him in support and encouragement as he strives to recover from the tragic crash. When reckless drivers in Hawaii cause injuries to others, legal actions can be taken against them by surviving victims. If the at-fault party has not survived the accident, a legal claim can be filed against his or her estate in order for an injured victim to seek compensation for damages suffered.
