Protecting The Legal Interests Of Injured Hawaii Residents And Visitors Since 1973

Reckless drivers can cause Hawaiian pedestrian accidents

Pedestrians in Hawaii are generally aware of the dangers they are exposed to when out walking. Reckless drivers often disregard road safety rules, and resulting accidents may lead to severe -- or even fatal -- injuries. Three pedestrians were recently hospitalized after they were struck by a vehicle.

The three pedestrians were walking in the vicinity of a spot that is well known for turtle-watching on a recent Sunday afternoon. Reportedly, a driver on the Kamehameha Highway swerved off the highway and smashed into the pedestrians. He apparently failed to stop at the accident scene and drove away.

Lifeguards reportedly attended to the injured victims until the arrival of emergency services. They were rushed to a hospital, and their conditions were reported to be serious. The alleged hit-and-run driver was soon located and arrested. He is now facing charges of suspicion of DUI, fleeing an accident scene and accidental injury.

Victims of accidents that occur as the result of the alleged negligence of reckless drivers are entitled to pursue recovery of damages incurred. They retain the right to file a personal injury claim in a Hawaii civil court, and proper documentation of alleged negligence may lead to a monetary judgment. If the claim is successfully presented, the compensation may cover medical expenses, along with any additional damages deemed appropriate by state laws. In the event of fatal accidents in similar circumstances, the surviving family may file a wrongful death claim to pursue compensation for end-of-life expenses and other permissible damages.
