PROTECTING THE LEGAL INTERESTS OF INJURED HAWAII RESIDENTS AND VISITORS SINCE 1973

Hyundai vehicles among recent recalls of defective products

For those in Hawaii who own and drive a vehicle from Hyundai, the value of their choice is often clear. The automotive manufacturer certainly aims to please consumers, constructing their vehicles with added features and options for which many other companies charge a premium. However, with the news that the company has issued three separate recalls, some Hyundai owners are questioning whether their vehicles are built from components that may be defective products.

The recalls begin with nearly 1 million Sonata owners. Those with vehicles manufactured between 2011 and 2014 apparently may be at risk of experiencing issues related to leaking brake fluid or problems with their transmission shift cable. Hyundai suggests that owners take their vehicle to a dealership to have an inspection performed and replacement parts installed where appropriate.

Another issue involves the Hyundai Santa Fe, the company’s popular line of mid-size SUVs. There are concerns that vehicles sold in the Northern U.S. could experience rusting issues on the front coil springs. Over time, the rust could degrade the metal to the point that the spring might break and puncture a tire while the vehicle is in operation.

Finally, drivers of a Hyundai Veracruz should take their vehicles in to ensure that they are not experiencing leaking oil. This recall was issued amid concerns that an oil leak could affect a vehicle’s alternator and power charge capabilities. The end result could be a sudden and full loss of power, which could lead to an accident.

Hyundai owners in Hawaii and elsewhere should take the time to check that Hyundai has the proper contact information on file for them. While articles such as this are written to advise consumers of defective products issues, the best way to stay on top of such matters is to give the vehicle manufacturer the ability to reach out and make contact when an issue arises. Those who drive one of the above-mentioned vehicles should research further to find out if they are part of one of these three separate recalls.
