PROTECTING THE LEGAL INTERESTS OF INJURED HAWAII RESIDENTS AND VISITORS SINCE 1973

The massive recalls issued by General Motors have been in the headlines recently; however, other automotive manufacturers are also issuing recalls on vehicles. Hawaii residents who own vehicles manufactured by the Ford Motor Company might be interested in learning about these recalls so they can determine if their vehicles are among the affected models.

In 82,500 Ford vehicles, the floor mat may come into contact with the gas pedal and cause problems. Dealers will replace the floor mats in 2006 to 2011 Ford Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr, Lincoln MKZ and Mercury Milan vehicles.

Another recall has to do with 196,000 Ford Explorers. These 2011 to 2013 year model SUVs have an electrical problem in the steering gear that can stop the power steering from working properly. Dealers will either replace the steering gear or update the software to correct the issue.

The largest recall in this batch from Ford affects 915,000 Mercury Mariner and Ford Escape vehicles. The torque sensor in the steering column might stop working, which can make the vehicles difficult to steer since the power steering will go out.

The other recall doesn’t affect vehicles originally sold in Hawaii but could affect someone who purchased a 2010 to 2014 Ford Taurus on the mainland in an area that has snow. In this recall, it was announced that the area around the license plate light might rust, which can lead to a short circuit, which could cause a fire.

Anyone who has been injured in an accident involving a defective auto part should seek legal counsel. Auto manufacturers owe a duty of care to protect consumers from an unreasonable risk of injury, and holding a negligent manufacturer accountable could lead to compensation for medical bills and other costs resulting from a crash.
