Firm History

Paul F. Cronin, L. Richard Fried, Jr., and Gerald Y. Sekiya were partners in the trial department of a large Honolulu law firm when they left to form their own law firm in 1973. They were joined by Wayne K. Kekina in 1976 and David L. Fairbanks in 1985. Cronin, Fried, Sekiya, Kekina & Fairbanks handles serious personal injury, wrongful death and large complex commercial litigation cases.

All of our senior attorneys have earned the prestigious AV rating (the highest rating for legal ability and professional standards) from the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, which rates attorneys based upon the judgment of Hawaii judges and lawyers. Seven of our most experienced lawyers have earned the highest AV rating, while five others have already earned the BV rating reflecting High to Very High legal ability. Our attorneys have been honored by Supreme Court appointments to important judiciary commissions and committees, and currently serve on the Judicial Conduct Commission and Supreme Court committees for Civil Rules, Appellate Rules, Evidence and Civil Jury Instructions. Our attorneys have been recognized by fellow attorneys and have served as Presidents, Directors and Committee Chairs of the Hawaii State Bar Association and Trial Lawyer Associations. Several have received Trial Lawyer of the Year and Lifetime Achievement awards by the Hawaii Trial Lawyers Association and Consumer Lawyers of Hawaii.
